How exactly do you do self portraits?

When using a tripod and a remote switch (or self timer), how would you get the focus on yourself?
Im sure the answer is simple but i really cant work it out!
 
Set up the camera is facing you

Half push down the shutter release on the remote

then smile

then push the shutter release down again incase it has come out of focus (could happen if your body moved away abit)

Then press it right down

That is how i got told anyway
 
Ohh i didnt know remotes could be pushed half way... I don't have one yet.
 
I took this one of me (obviously) by holding the camera out in front of me.

Although I did feel a little sad spending Sunday afternoon taking photos of myself. It seems such a strange thing to do. Sort of the ultimate 'Billy no mates' pass-time.

And yes, I know what you're thinking. But no, I'm not George Clooney's younger brother!

Have you ever thought of doing one of these 365 things? I wish I'd started about 15 years ago to see how I've changed. I started a 365 about 2 weeks ago. See how it goes.
 
Sorry 'bout that. It actually shocked me a bit when I saw the size of it!
