Yes
I have an Evesham pc that has run faultlessly for 3 years but with cs3 and other programmes it is a little slow. It has a pentium 2.8 something or other processor and 512mb ram. How easy is it to increase the RAM and will I lose any info by doing so?

Ta in advance.

not difficult tbh, first you need to find out what ram you need (motherboard instructions if you have them, if not just the motherboard model will allow a search to find the memory.

memory is just clip in to the motherboard so all you need to do is take the side cover off the case, unclip the old ram and put the new ram in (or put another stick into an adjacent socket if simply adding to it.

it isnt a complex job at all

price wise i dont know how much memory costs these days or whats recommended for running CS3

can't be that difficult. I've done it on every pc or laptop I've owned :D

No, you won't lose data and there is nothing to set up. ......... Plug and go

Check your motherboard make and what RAM it takes as there are many different types. You need to get the right speed and physical size.

You probably have 2 x 256Mb RAM modules. With 2Gb a recommended minimum, you may in fact be able to add the two and have 2.5Gb.

If you find out what you need send me a PM as I might have a some memory lying around.

Me too, its a fairly easy task, just a case of getting the right type as people has said.

Another vote for Crucial here. Good quality and reliable.

If I can do it anyone can.
Just take the above advice on getting the correct RAM then take care to rid yourself of static electricity before handling the RAM or the insides of your PC. Lots of info on the Web on the subject.

Another vote for Crucial. Don't buy more than 2gb if you're using XP, as others have said it's easy enough to replace it, make a note of how the old chip comes out and do the same in reverse to fit the new.

RAM slots and RAM have blanked sections (male/female) so that its impossible (unless you really really try) to put the RAM in incorrectly. Its a really easy job and the price of RAM these days is very good. I just upgraded my older main pc with another 2gb for £60 and my laptop to 4gb for £60 (DDR is around twice as expensive as DDR2 :( )

Careful for static though!

You cannot loose data when removing, swapping and replacing RAM as data isn't stored permanently on RAM :) It's one of the easiest components to upgrade on a computer and generally encouraged.
