Right so I went to a graduation in the week and Tempest Photography where there and I liked there basic set-up. They basically had 2 shoot-though umbrellas at 45degrees from the client and a snoot to the left and slightly behind for background light. The background was black, what is the best material for this? And could i do the same but only using 2 lights one with a big softbok 45degrees to the right of the client and the snoot as above?

Thanks

Velvet is always good for a black background.

Background needs to be matt material, so something like velvet is good. Sometimes one key light with two bg lights (which are technically hair/rim lights) is good. You certainly can do it with two lights, one key and one rim, and a grid is an alternative to(although not quite the same effect as) a snoot.

ok, wicked once i've saved and bought my 70-200 2.9 ill save sor a background n snoot. Then get playing around with it.

Thanks
