How does the "interestingness" on Flickr work?

Yes
I only really use flickr so that I can then link to them elsewhere so I'm not really bothered about views etc, but I noticed the stats below and was curious as to what was going on.....

I have one image at #17 with 116 views (0 favourites) and one at #16 with 8 views! (0 favourites)

Am I missing something really obvious, or will my slightly OCD like tendencies mean I will just have to remove #16 so that this no longer bothers me :)

Probably easiest to point you to the stickied discussions here - https://www.flickr.com/groups/inexplore/discuss/ - much as that group annoys me, it does have a reasonably comprehensive grasp on the current thinking behind the selections of the magic donkey.

This has occasionally intrigued me as well as my apparently most interesting photo has about 16 views and I don't think it is actually all that interesting myself

Anyway a quick google found this from flickr

While this from Steve's Digicams gives some insight into that

Apparently its computers what done it guv

I think @mjScall means the interestingness tab under stats and not what gets a photo into explore.

Here's my top 15 - no 6 has low views compared to the others but is ( arguably ) a more interesting photo

It's the same thing. Explore is just the most "interesting" photos of a given day.

Most of my pics which are tagged with plain & simple titles are fairly low on views, but I tagged one (a flower with 3 bees on it) with something like `3 in a bed` or `manage et trois`.......it has had many hundreds of views! Mostly disappointed folk I presume :D

Is the interestingness tab only available to some sort of pro account? I don't see it.

They rate interestingness based on title, tags, groups and number of views. But not on the interestingness of the actual photo. Which explains why you sometimes get pretty lame pictures that people have pimped to hell with loads of tags and pushing it into loads of groups. They must be desperate.

There are three little dots on the RH side of your flickr page. Click that and then choose Popular. There are a list of tabs, Interesting, Views, Favourites, Comments. All make sense apart from Interesting. Like OP I have pictures with minimal views and no comments that are in here, but images with 500 views and loads of comments don't appear.

Must say I prefer 500px to Flickr but have always kept the latter due to the Groups. Maybe even that is redundant now that I have found TP :-)

Blimey, I've never clicked on that `popular` in the drop down menu! Didn't know what it was for. Cheers. (y)

The image of 3 bees on a flower I mentioned in my post earlier, is entitled `Busy threesome`.......... & has over 2000 views!

(I don't have the Pro acct either)
