Just wondering after a comment from dellipher about people's posting habits.

For me, because there's so many images posted nowadays I'll tend to go through the first page of the "new posts", maybe the second as well depending on how much time I have, then have a look at unanswered. Some grab my attention, some don't. I don't really look for anyone's in particular because there are Soooooooo many good photographers here.

So what about you?

personally if a shot is getting alot of comments i tend not to comment..
if i see a shot with no comments but its had say 60 views i look and wonder why no comments..
some times you can see why people have not commented but even these shot need a comment so i try to offer what little advise i can ..

obviously certain people who i have the crack with will get a comment off me good or bad but thats life in general ..

thats me anyway...

There's far too many threads of photos for me to post on, I would need to give up work and spend the day on the forum commenting - mmmmm now that seems like a worthwhile project - anyone know if I can get paid for it

:lol::lol:

I would love to be able to comment on more but you lot have got far too much time on your hands :D

I too just go through new posts looking for something that sounds interesting to look at, then if I think I can add anything I post.

Me too, also try and look at the unanswered to see if anything catches my eye.
Problem is being relatively new and inexperienced I sometimes don't feel confident enough to comment

 i know what you mean there but this has been mentioned so many times before.. why not say why you like it or why you dont like it..
we are all different and all like different things and styles..

also if you are way offf " not likely" then as ive said before someone will correct you which means you learn and so does the op..

just imo " and the reason i dont mind posting nowadays"

Cheers Md, fair point. As you said if you like it say so and if you don't say why, we all can learn that way, will try and be more confident in my postings

I go through the first page of new posts, then work down camera chat > Lens chat > General photo's> Macro photo's > landscape > for sale > meeting place and this forum. Some i miss if it's a quick visit.

That would make a good sig ;)

There has been an improvement in comments but there are still some people that post a picture with little or no accompanying text to assist comment - and even more annoyingly they don't seem to comment on others work either. If they played their part fully then it would be even better.

Back on topic :) I have the home page bookmarked and glance down the list there first. Then I go to the forums index page and check a few sections where I might have been looking last time. After that it is new posts list and I do tend to notice the zero replies threads on the later pages and respond if I can. I don't comment on mono image threads as I just don't appreciate most monos and move on quickly.

Me too, its hard keeping up with the place now though, its sooooooo busy :crowded:

I tend to work mainly off the home page tbh. I also look at the unanswered posts list at least once a day and have a personal rule that I will always comment on at least one of them. I have often found that by doing so it kind of gets the ball rolling and then a few other people will comment too :)

Well that saves me explaining my method!

Ditto, i will allways try and leave a comment on anything i see that interests me as i would hope others will do the same when i share images.

Via RSS so I skim through nearly all the new threads then post in ones that catch my eye.

I tend to just ramble about the forums and post on things that interest me, when im in a good mood I press the "Unanswered Posts" button and try and make a useful comment on as many of them as I can manage...

OOoh - I'm a bit differeent to you lot then

I come straight to 'out of focus', then 'talk photography', 'people & portraits', 'general photo sharing' in that order every single day without fail (bit of a creature of habit, I'm afraid!). If I've got time, I have a quick look around the other bits of the forum too, although I have to admit that I very rarely visit the sport or transport sections unless I'm really bored.

Ssshhh, don't tell Cheryl ;)
Let's have some fun - Mods, can you move all the Transport posts into the people and portraits forum over night  :D

:naughty:

I check Subscribed Threads first to see if there are any replies, then Mods Room Posts, then check out new postings. Judging by my post count, I'm responding to far too many. ;)

I tend to read things where the subject line grabs my attention (which is why it's there) and also if someone I know posts something.
I'll usually respond with advice if I have any or just some spurious comment that will hopefully anger the serious readers out there...
There also used to be a couple of people on here who would post truly dismal efforts in the Advanced Critique section and then get all offended when I pointed things out like "it's back-focussed" or "the composition's a bit off" - after a few scathing comments back I used to search diligently for those and REALLY lay into them!

I'm mean and nasty by the way...lol
