I have loved photography for years and have recently given up my own business and am looking to fill my time with all things photography. How do you go about getting experience with/from other photographers - obviously starting at very bottom. Are there many photographers that are happy/willing to have helpers? I live in glasgow if there are any photographers looking for a bag carrier/coffee maker :)

I'm sure many people would like a cheap/free second shooter, you will just have to go and ask...

You don't have to do it for free. If you've been in to photography for years you should have enough of a stock of information, and good images, to put together a portfolio that should get you some work as an assistant. There are a couple of reliable websites out there specifically to provide help and assitance to those looking to start working as an assistant, but I can't remember the addresses off the top of my head and I'm posting from my phone which is in need of a charge but google something photography assistant jobs shoulkd get you somewhere near.

Working as an assistant will get you experience and let you see how photography works as a business/industry. And you can earn respectable money while you're at it.

myself, i just get myself out & about, I've got a shoot this weekend for a friends pupil's band, which should be interesting.
