Yes
Just interested really, how do you find locations to take photos wherever you are, or do you pre plan and research, look at specific sites?

I generally do a bit of research first. I'll have an idea of what I want to shoot, check in the Internet where I can go to shoot it, then I'll look at sunrise/sunset times, tides etc and off I go :0)

Wouldn't it be great if there was a map where people could pin great locations for photography. Saw a thread last week that had members collating a map of locations for taking light trails.

Downside is that it requires someone to put their time in to mod the map to stop any potential looney from messing things up.

I'm new to photography but live in the city. Don't know off hand any nice locations close to me I could drive to one evening after work. I'm sure there must be loads.

Last year we visited somewhere each and every month spending a weekend in each area:

I normally have my favourite places to visit and we normally find somewhere that has a nice town, so me and the wife can have a drink and nice meal, other than that and if it's just a spare of the moment, open up a map of an area you do not mind travelling the radius off and close you're eyes and just pick out a random area.

Depends what you want to Photograph to what area you visit.

Also, ask other togs. I saw a landscape photo of a lonely tree last week asked the tog where it was taken and he kindly gave me a link to Google Earth and, guess what, it was only 15 minutes from my doorstep.
I now have a nice B+W image ready to frame.

Keep your eyes open when you're out and about, deviate and take the sideroads when you have time. Drive down dead-ends and come back again. Look at both sides of the road in both directions.

When you spot somethings, even if the light isn't perfect, take a few snaps to remind you what it's like and make a mental note of what condiions might suits it. Make a note on your maps. Create a personal photo location Google Map (you don't need to share it, I don't share all of my favourite locations). Go back from time to time.

Learn to read a map and spot potentially interesting locations.

Look at photos others have taken, look at paintings others have painted. Pay more attention to the paintings than the photographs.

Read. Lots. Of everything.
