I have a picture of my son that i really like, but i think the eyes let it down. How do you make the eyes pop a little without it looking too fake? I've tried a few different things that i've seen in magazine articles, but i'm still not happy. Maybe i'm just not following the tutorials very well

Thanks in advance

ok, now i feel stupid for not already seeing that. thanks, will give it a go.

thanks for taking time to help anyway steve:)

No probs... At least your sorted now... Usually I have things like that saved - but trying to find where I saved them is another thing

THere's other things you can do to help. I do a selection as Hacker does (usually feather by 3 pixels though) and the first thing I do is make two copies of the selection - press control+J twice.

Top copy change to soft light and layer under to screen.

Now change the opacity of each until you are happy.

Now you can flatten and make a further selection and sharpe the eyes as Hacker does.

Loads of ways to do very similar things

Yeah, good way of whitening teeth too.

I don't select any of the white of the eyes usually when doing the above - If I need to brighten, I will make a selection of that seperately and create a copy with a screen layer and lower the opacity till it looks natural

With teeth I make a selection, feather by 3 or 4 pixels and then go to the red channel and make a copy of that selection. I then select the RGB and go back to the layers pallet and paste the red channel back into the image then I lower the opacity of that layer to suit.

As you said above..........loads of different ways. ;)

thanks all. been having a play and it looks better (more natural than my previous attempts) already. like everything i suppose, easy when you know how. thanks again.

masked curves layer and/or subtle drawing in of light and shadow enhancements in one of the contrast blending modes

usually looks good if you paint around on the side receiving the most light with a loose white splotch, then set it to soft light and take the opacity down

lots of other stuff too, but best to think what you want and acheive it using your knowledge of the tools that for me/us to give you a ton of cookie cutter solutions
