How do I take part of the image from photo's?

Hi there- I'm new to this forum so just want to say hi to you all.
Not sure I've got the right place for this question.
I love to take photo's of my dogs etc. What I would really like to know is how I can "cut round" the picture of my dog, so that I can then use just that part of the picture on some of the cards/ calendars that I like to make. I have Adobe Photoshop on my computer, and also Photo Impact 3; are there any tools on those that I can use? I'm fairly new to photography and only want to keep it simple, no competitions or anything.
 
hi and welcome...think its a photoshop thing you want to do...good luck with it
love to see shots of your dogs...i am a way out doggie fan

i have photoshop elements 2..the sort of freebie you get when you buy a dslr free..

the later ££ ones are probably a lot better and worth buying
