The white glare as you call it - is an area thats over exposed, typical,on white animals and birds- just need to adjust your exposure to suit the subject
and the best way to avoid it is to turn on 'blinky highlights' on the lcd so that you can see imediately if you've burnt areas out and can reshoot with a different exposure.
