How do I merge star trail shots together?

Hi all,

Using photoshop how would i add 12 shots together for star trails ? I tried adding 12 layers the changing the opacity to around 8.5 to equal 100% if they were all added together (do you get me) but that way seemed to make each frame fade so much that the trails were barely visible. What is the correct way of merging them so this fading doesn't happen ?

I use registax for stacking astro images. As the earth
moves, so the stars will move from image to image.
Registax tracks these movements, and aligns them,
giving a more detailed finished image.

Hmm i thought I replyed to this. 'Screen' for a lending mode should work.
