How do I make Tricolour effects

I want to mimic “Tri-colour” filters in image editing software, preferably Elements 5.

Basically I want to recreate the multiple exposure technique that used red green and blue filters, and three separate exposures on a single frame, resulting in any static object appearing normal, and any object which moved showing coloured edges.

I think I should be able to do this by setting the camera up on a tripod, take three images, of say a waterfall.

This is where I don’t know what to do next. I would strip the colours of the three images to give the same effect as the filters, i.e. RGB, then overlay and merge the individual R, G and B images.
How do I strip the colours, and make sure I end up with just the primary R, G, and B so that they end up with no tints after they are merged?

Help / advice appreciated.

I don't know if you can do this in Elements but in Photoshop I would just the channels to copy and paste the R, G, or B channel from each shot into the same channel on a new image.

Can you give us an example of what you mean? Im quite confused.

Think of 3 exposures of someone walking, taken 1 second apart say. Then take the blue channel from one, the red from another and the green channel from the final exposure and combine them. Now imagine the effect.:) As pxl8 said, just copy the channel information you need into a new layer and choose the right blend mode (Multiply?)
