I had a photoshoot planned for this weekend with a model and the weather is due to be miserable. It's going to be an outdoor shoot and I have plans to incorperate the rain into the shoot, but haven't done much photography in these conditions.

Any tips for making the most of the rain in the shoot?

Equipment wise I have a range of lenses, all at f2.8 plus the nifty, 580EXII (but no triggers for off camera)

Umbrella and wellies, puddle splashing, reflections in standing water.. lots of ways to play it.

Some good ideas, I will be finding out if she has any wellies ;)

I was really wondering if there are any techniques to avoid dull lighting you get with bad weather, or is this something that's best left to p/p?

If you're not fixed for off-camera flash.. keep your eyes open for breaks in the cloud, large reflective surfaces (white walls), etc and as the light fades make the most of artificial light sources. A reflector could be handy is you have one.

You'd get some nice shots on a wet night on a shopping street. Use the largest window with the whitest lights as a large light source for your subject, and let the street lights, headlights and the rest of the shops provide some sparkly bokeh in the background.

Cheers for the tips, I have now managed to lat my hands on a second flash and some remote releases for the day so I should be sorted now.

All the info above noted though

Get a packet of ziplock freezer bags and put the flashes/triggers in them, that way you can use them in the rain without fear of damaging them
