I've ajusted the levels to what i think is right but id like to make the sky nicer like a deeper blue, and get this relfected in the water, i tried using selective colour but that didnt work. any tips?

Try adding a blue gradient layer over the sky (blue to transparent) & changing the blending mode to overlay. Then mask out the bit covering the tree (or just erase it) then usual levels, shadow/highlight, curves & brightness/contrast adjustments as required. Repeat for the water.
Just shout out if you need any more help or advice

I'll move this away from the tutorial section, to somwhere where you'll get better coverage by the photoshop genius' on here.

I did have a quick fiddle with the image in photoshop but my ftp has decided it's not going to let me upload images........something else on the list of things to kick !

the levels were still slightly out, so by moving the sliders into the edges of the histogram on both sides things became a little better, I then tweaked the satuation on the blue channel and thigs looked better :D

But.over to the others

cheers that works great :)
Sorry to be a pain but how do i erase the gradient fron the trees?

Not a pain at all Casfan, that's what we're here for
Reading up on masks is the best possible thing you could ever learn in Photoshop & well worth the time it takes - will completely change the way you work for the better
In the meantime - when you create your gradient, make sure you are creating it on a different layer, select it, just choose your eraser tool & rub out the area of gradient that is covering the trees.

Masks are much more versatile as they are non-destructive & won't alter your image at all - you always have the option to remove any changes at any time.

A very quick go - Little drop in highlight in curves and tried highlight and shadow which did not do too much but using Select colour picked the sky and reflection and then brought sliders in to edges of histogram in levels for the selection deepened the colour dramatically.
I am sure this may be the way if more time is spent on it. Have fun!

thanks moomike. I am learning alot at the moment, i sort of understand levels and that have no ideas about curves though. Spend alot of my time just playing and seeing what different settings do. thanks for the gradient tip it helped me creat what i wanted, you can see what i came up with much beter than the original one above.http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=335304#post335304
I will have a look at masks

Here's a quick blast, Gradiented sky and just fixed the blackpoint in the levels.

Now that's crisp and more like it!
