How do I create this Readybrek effect?

I've recently seen an image of someone playing football where the image has been edited to give the player an almost ready brek type glow!

When I first saw it, I wasn't that keen, but it has grown on me - to an extent that I thought I might try and do a similar thing to a photo of my 3 year old daughter in her ballet outfit (pic yet to be taken and the glow would obviously be pink rather than green!!)

I'm assuming the subject (the footballer in the eg below) would be extracted and pasted on to a white background. Then some sort of brush would be used to paint the "glow" round them. There is also a bit of movement effect to make it look like the ball is being kicked, but I'm not too concerned about doing this.

The effect is below - note I've only put up a snippet as I don't want to break any copyrights - if I have by even posting up a snippet, let me know and I'll remove the image straight away

Thanks for any advice / suggestions

You could extract the player, then make a copy so you have two extractions. select one extraction and paint it whatever glowing colour you choose, place the first extraction directly over the top, and use a blur filter on the shadow extraction to create the glow effect.

Place the two extractions over the top of each other and use the layer opacity slider to check exact positioning before you start to work on them.

That's what I'd do anyway.

It could be done a few ways, easiest is to get a blobby brush with a lot of jitter set, paint around your subject and add a bit of blur.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll have a play around and see what I can come up with. The biggest challenge will probably be getting a shot of my daughter in her ballet outfit and smiling!! (the footballer was just an example, I'm planning to do a pink readybrek effect on my photo)
