There are many ways but the best i have found is to study photographs in books and magazines and when you find one you like break it down in your mind to
Subject matter
Composition
Exposure
and Technique was the photographer in a prone position or above the subject or on eye level. Was a shallow depth of field used or was everything sharp meaning the lens was stepped down.
Were filters used what time of day was It. Where was the light source coming from once you break the image down in your mind you can then apply the same techniques to your own images. I hope this helps
