Sometimes I see photos on here that I feel I am some way's away from. So am curious, how are people getting the animal / birds into the frame?

For the deer and goat photos I take, they're wild and I tend to spot and stalk (with a large amount of luck), alternatively I may happen across one without it noticing me.
Birds are "they happen to be there" as i'm out and about and I get a shot or two off. I did recently spend some amount of time lying on a partially frozen hillside in camo gear from waist up waiting for a kestrel that didn't show. I'd spotted it perched on a couple of trees near by.

Am curious how others are going about it? Is it in established hides? Hides you've set up yourselves? Or spot what you spot while out?

Hi, personally I have never used a paid hide for the simple reason it's not as satisfying as getting the shot myself. To get my images (Good or not that's down to people who view them) I have a portable hide ( look for Nighthawk hides) and also a tent like hide (Menimal 2 Man Camouflage Pop up Hunting Blind) in a private farm woodland where I keep feeders filled as best I can and lastly for Kingfisher and Dippers again have permission from a private estate. Most people are approachable to ask permission to photograph on there land and I always say they say yes or no, if no move on and look for somewhere else.

wot species of wild deer Rd?? is it roe?

wot kind of images are you looking to make? what inspires you

I'd summize the answer to your question is going slower than you are now if stalking

Mate forgive my brevity and all the q's......... I rarely use hides, I guess my front door could be conceived as one largely I stalk or wait in a pre observed spot and then stalk.

take care

These days I tend to take a lot of shots from my mobile Honda CRV hide , due to limited mobility .. but to date I have never ever used a paid specialist hide set up . Prefering to see and take my own shots in a natural scenario

I have a permanent, garden hide, which gets me reasonable results and is very enjoyable too.

I also set up for Kingfishers at the river, I use a scrim netting, ghillie suit and I hold a Schedule 1 licence which allows me to work near the nest, if I choose to. I also try to blend into the vegetation/undergrowth as much as possible, which isn't difficult in the summer months. Kingfishers are my target but I often get other species too, even mammals. It does take a lot of time though.

Nothing against paid hides as such but they're not for me, I prefer to put the time and effort in myself and I can call every image 100% my own. I do love the challenge.
