I've been reading up about OCF, and I'm tempted but confused.

When flashes/triggers/hotshoe cables are Canon or Nikon (or whatever) compatible, is that only a TTL compatibility? ie, are any modern (voltage regulated) flashes/triggers compatible with any hotshoes in manual mode?

Specifically, assuming I don't want to splash out on the TTL Fuji flash for my x100, can I choose any flash (the Yonguo ones for example) and any wireless trigger to use off-camera in manual mode? Or is it more complicated than that?

Thanks in advance.

I believe that's TTL compatibility. I can use my Nikon flashes on my Fuji. I believe any flash in the last 10 yrs is voltage compatible.

Note, I said "I believe" because I don't know for a fact.

The YN-560 has only a single pin in the centre of the shoe and therefore works (manual) on Canon or Nikon.

If it's anything like my X-E1, make sure you turn silent mode to Off, otherwise your triggers won't work :)

Hi, The answer to the first part of your question is "YES" providing they are the "Correct Polarity" which you will find that all modern flash units are.

I was concerned about the acceptible trigger voltage of the Fuji X cameras when I purchased my X-E1 & X20. I contacted Fuji Technical and they confirmed via email that the Fuji X cameras would each accept a trigger voltage of up to 300 volts via the hot shoe.

The answer to the second part of your question is "YES".

Hope this helps.

An update: the flash arrived today and is great - works on the hotshoe, works when triggered by the pop-up flash. Unfortunately, I ordered the Nikon version of the 603 trigger, and the camera won't trigger them. They'll talk to each other, but the camera doesn't seem to talk to the trigger. I googled it, and it seems it's a known thing - the 603n won't work, but the Canon version (603c) will. I'm returning the n to Amazon, going to try the C.
