Hi guys

I am wondering if any of you guys have a hot tub and which you have please as I have been looking at a few and there are so many to choose from ranging for £4k and up..

There some that have all the parts that built in USA i.e. Pump and controls and Base etc but they been built in China to keep cost down but no parts are built there I believe like Balbo controls I believe.

Or there the Hotspring and Jacuzzi which cost a lot more but they are built in USA...

They are all say they cost between 80p to a quid a day to run after you heated it up from a fill up of fresh water.

Love to hear some User experience please.. they have also said Old hot tubs have cost more to run due to old tech and poor insulation but new ones have improves massively??

Hi Andrew,
We have had a Hot tub for ten years and its been fantastic- ours is a Coleman and cost around 5k , stay away from Chinese ones- apparently quite unreliable and hard to obtain parts, Jacuzzi tubs are very good although more expensive to buy.
Ours has mainly Balboa parts and over ten years I have replaced the heating element twice and various other bits and bobs and never had any trouble sourcing the parts. As far as running costs we never really noticed any difference in the electricity
bills- the main expense is chemicals and filters. Also have replaced the cover twice in ten years- they cost around £400 each time
The tub is used regularly and is a great way to relax!
I think its best to buy one from a reputable dealer and get the longest warranty available (ours was five years)
If you have any more questions please ask!

Hi

Thank you for all the useful information.

But these tubs at £4K are assemble in China but the parts are from USA as in Balboa and the tub itself. Is this still a concern would u say?

I also looked at

La spa
Hotspring

But cost more argh

LA spa and Hotspring are well established makes- I'd still avoid the chinese ones though, just because the parts are US branded I'd still be concerned about the build quality of the other bits like the shell and the electrics,
but having said all that if you get a decent warranty it may be all ok- whereabouts are you?

Whats the pic of the house all about??

That what I though about the house.

Anyway I live in Hope Valley. And at the moment am swayed to jacuzzi for the build but it twice the price lol. Hmmm hard work this

There's a hot tub place near me that specializes in Jacuzzi tubs- might be worth a call . I know you're a long way away but they will deliver and fit anywhere
http://www.freedom-leisure.com/ thats where I got mine from and they're still supplying the parts!

Helpful ???
My helpful advice would be, "Don't skimp on the cleaning".

I had to research hot tubs and spas for a local holiday home site hygiene manual - pretty grim as they wanted to be chemical free and didn't want to drain, clean and refill weekly (or even between lets).

Is there still a spa place at high peak garden centre?

Yes definitely don't skimp on cleaning and maintenance!
Makes the whole experience better and the spa will last a lot longer[emoji3]

I know we need empty it clean it least 3 times a year. Filter need cleaning weekly replacing prob every 3 month??

Checking chemical levels weekly at least (possibly daily if its being used frequently), clearing out leaves etc (daily if required). Can't see it would be less frequent than swimming pool.

Leaf won't get it when cover on

Leaves are not the problem. It's the dead skin cells, other biologicals, and the biofilm that grows on the pipework as the water circulates at body temperature and conveniently aerated.

If I can find a copy the summary I prepared for the holiday home lets I could point to some sources on the risks associated with not following the correct chemical dosing and cleaning schedules, but I'd advise against reading it while eating (or if you ever intend enjoying a hot tub/jacuzzi at any point in the future).

Are you trying put me off buying one???

Surely if I dose it correctly everythime I use it or what ever I be fine

We've had one for a couple of years now. Still gets used daily, and no unwanted neighbours but then again, no pampas grass on the front lawn.

Ours is a 1500 litre Canadian one. Costs about £8 to heat from cold and about £1.20 day to keep at 40c.

Clean and refill every 2-3 months. We tend towards 2 months based on usage, but you get a feel for it. The water will still be crystal clear at 2 months and will start to get a little 'sluggish' after that as the total dissolved solids levels increase.

We use bromine rather then chlorine, it's less sensitive to the PH of the water, but once you get into the swing of it, I find you only need to check up on the chemical balance once a week. Ours will use 4 bromine tabs in a week, and every other week we need to balance the PH and Total Alkalinity.

Filter gets rinsed every 30 days and cleaned every 60. We have several we just swap out. New filters are around £30 if you buy a 3rd part one.

Never had an issue with anything going out of kilter and certainly no biofilm apparent. Ours circulates water through the filter, and bromine tablets under pressure 24/7/365 as well as cycling the other two pumps periodically to ensure nothing sits in the pipes and as far as I can see, the chemicals do they job and keep any bacteria in touch.

Obviously the conditions are ideal for nasties to grow, but so far so good.

No, just a reminder that these schedules are important.

Don't be put off mate! All people are saying is keep on top of the water maintenance ie check water every couple of days and adjust accordingly- its actually very easy just requires a bit of time thats all :)

Do we need check even if we leave it for 2 weeks covered up i.e. When go on holiday

Don't fly back in the middle of your holiday for the sake of a weekly check, but check when you get back before you use it. Even with a lid on the chemicals break-down/evaporate.

It will always be covered up unless you're using it! Unless you're made of money :-)

And no. Just check and top up before you go, and check things when you get back before you use it.
If the water is very old, I might be tempted to replace it before going away, or perhaps 'shock' it (basically you give it a bit of a kick to burn off the organic matter)

It's all straight forward.

Thank guys hopefully all this chemical is straight forward ha ha

It can seem a bit daunting at first but it's a piece of cake !

Need get a base done too

Need get a base done too
Not for all of them. We were planning on getting a Hotsprings tub and had to have a proper concrete base laid. However, in the end, we went for a jacuzzi and they don't need a special base, just level ground.
There are only two of us that use it and we only need to change the water every 9-12 months. We have it serviced annually, check the chlorine level every other day and pop a pill in the 'bobber' every few weeks. Most tubs have a UV sterilizer and the chlorine works for everything else. Our water stays crystal clear and 'skin free' because we always shower before we go in.
We got a very good deal and paid around £8k 5 years ago. It has been brilliant in that time although the stereo has just packed in recently and at £500 to replace it we will probably just get some outside bluetooth speakers and use our iPhones instead.

Hot tub....having a bath with other people...outdoors.
