Maria,

I like the composition and DOF. I don't know why, but I think I might have liked to see this is 'traditional' B&W?

Hi Maria, I think this is one of my favourite pics in the the 52 challenge. I can't put my finger on it but this image really appeals.

Also a great take on the "accommodation" theme.

Patrick

Lovely composition; given me an idea for my 52 challenge which I need to get moving with - don't worry nothing to do with eggs mind.

Cracking shot (excuse the pun) :D good take on the theme well done what type of eggs are they  are they just hens eggs ?

Hiya Maria

Well done on your first of this 52, I love the idea behind this image.

I like the DOF and composition.

Good luck with rest of the 52.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Great shot, great take on the theme. Very well done. Glad my first shot isn't this good, where would I go from here?

Nice idea. Love the DOF and the composition is spot on

Original idea of the interpretation... 4* out of 5

nice composition and great interreptation, like the dof only slight and very slight niggle is the wood join in the left bottom corner but otherwise superb

OMG I can't believe you mentioned that. I was going to point it out too but thought I would come across as too 'nit-picky' as it is such a brilliant pic! ~Sigh of relief!~

:)

thanks everyone for your lovely comments.

Ray I tried the traditional b&w, but the warmer tones appealed to me more as the subject and surroundings were all warm natural tones and it felt more 'in keeping' with the original to me :) (one of the b&w versions is on my flickr if you want to have a look)

thank you Patrick & David, that's very kind of you both :)

James, yes they're just hens eggs - the one at the front is a 'happy egg' and the two behind are from a local free range farm ;)

thank you Dawn :) and Colin - I've only had a dslr for about 15 months, and we all have to start somewhere (and by golly, I can show you some awful shots! ) and Dawn, I'd already cloned out some knots on the worktop... I think I might have lost the will to live at that point!

and thanks for your comments Sarah, David & Paul, very much appreciated :)

ha, you had the same idea as me. Except you've gone for a better, serious shot and I went for the silly childish shot.

Nicely done.

Great minds! Love the use of DOF and the fact you it doesn't look like you raided the fridge like I did :o Fantastic shot

I thought I was being so original...will have to try even harder next week!

My take on it

well here's my attempt at 'New'....

Meet Thomas, my new countryman

and as it's my first attempt to actually photograph a car with any degree of thought, it's a totally new experience for me too .

hope you like :)

I like the shot, great angle.

Just wish the left door mirror was a bit more visable against the window..

Hope you didn't cause a traffic jam in the carpark..

Hi Maria,
Just seen your post for week 1.
Class, Love it (execution and more than that... the idea).

thanks :) yeah, I noticed the wing mirror - couldn't do too much about it at the time as the sunlight was really bright and I had to use flash to get some detail :( bizarrely, the car park was closed just around that curve!!! good job my OH was with me - I'd never have been able to reverse down!

thank you!

Well, I'd be well pleased if I'd taken it
thanks very much :)

Super shot. I love the sweeping curves of the background, gives it a sense of movement. Well lit too
thanks, it caught my eye too ;)

I reckon that works really well. The positioning is spot on.
thank you :)

Nice shot. Lovely colour car. The only slight niggle is the dissapearing wing mirror.

Like your shot for week 1. The colours really suit the subject. As has already been said, shame about the marks on the front egg. Great depth of field.

Hi Maria,

Well done on getting your Week 2 photo posted.

Thomas is a grand little car and I wish you many happy days of driving your new countryman :)

Regards the photo, personally I find the carpark roof and light quite distracting and grubby so I would have given the image a tight crop top and bottom but kept the width. Hope you don't mind but I copied the image to my desktop to have a play (which will be deleted), just so I could get my thoughts together about the image. With the crop mentioned and then increasing the shadow slider to tone down the brightness of the light on the right and also the right headlight.

With the crop you do loose the impression of movement that has been mentioned by others, which I didn't quite see because I was drawn to the light, but with what I have suggested focuses more on the car and makes it look quite powerful.

I like the way the light and shadow seem to cast a little heart on the left wall, quite apt for your new motor.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with for the next theme.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Another good shot Maria.
I like the low angle and the sweeping curves of the building.

I think you should have asked the person in the car to duck down so they don't distract from the car.

nice one maria great shot:thumbs: very sharp and nice colours :) you would have had to be quick with that shot so well done :)

thanks everyone for your positive replies :)

and so to this week......

I had an idea that I wanted to revisit a photograph I took for a college assignment early last year.
I really hate having my photo taken, but I really wanted to see whether I could improve on the original - both in use of my equipment and my composition technique. This time, you can actually see me and the lighting is much better so I'm pleased there is a little improvement....

I used off camera flash softened through a diffusing umbrella, 50mm 1.4 and remote shutter release. A bit of levels adjustment and sharpening in PSE8, and an attempt at skin softening (I wish I could buy that in a bottle!;) ).

Hopefully this has captured a bit of my personality and given you a hint who one of my favourite artists is!!!
The focus is a bit off which is a shame, but hopefully it'll make you smile anyway!

forgot to say... the 'style' element is me copying Beryl Cooks style, whilst looking at her stylish print!!!!! :)

original is on flickr if you want to see the exif etc & comments always welcome :)

Hi Maria,

That is excellent, very brave of you and stylish too.

I love how you have composed the image to include you in the painting, well done.

Cheers

Dawn :)
