HopefulM's 52 - week 4 'Street' added

thanks for the comment :)

I know what you mean....

but I didn't want her parents thinking I was a weirdo

 fully understandable in today unfortunate climate! Did what you could at the time

Hi Maria

Street photography can be difficult where children are involved so I think you can be forgiven for capturing her as you did. I like the way the red of her coat really stands out against the bland background and draws your attention to her.

It's a shame you can't lose the legs in the top RH corner as they are a distraction but you can't crop them out without spoiling the balance of the picture. If they weren't there it would be a much better picture, and the grate behind her could be cloned out but it gets a  from me.

I think candids are the worst for thinking about composition though as you are trying to grab the shot without being intrusive and all the peripheral stuff is apparent until you get home.

So kudos to you for getting out there :clap:

Nice image which might benefit from a Schindler's List treatment. Shame about the legs and sign in the background.

:agree:
I was just thinking the same thing!

Coud you enlighten stupid folk like me? :)

I could make you go watch the film ;)

The film is shot in b&w but occasionally throughout there is this one little girl in red who appears in the frame.

thanks Folks! :)

I'm now sat here infront of PS Elements....

getting increasingly frustrated after watching various tutorials.....

simply put - how do I clone out an area (and REALLY mean - simpletons terms :bang:)

I've seen it done many times (at the click of a button) but it's one of those things where it's so simple, you just thingk "yeah - I'll remember that!" and then the old age fairy sniggers quietly and gets her sponge out

Please... can someone put me out of my misery? :'(

thank you

Hopeful, click your clone tool, and then use 'alt' to sample an area, then when you click a different area it will replace that with what you've sampled. As you move aorund it will sample relative to where you originally set the point, hope that helps!

Sorry Maria. Not sure how I missed so much of your thread.

Poem : I like this a lot. Very emotive image and the B&W suits it well. I can't help wondering how it would have looked in a very subdued and desaturated colour version though - just to bring out some of the colours in the quilt.
I could be completely wrong with this though - and the B&W is very strong just as it is.

Chopped : Did I miss it or did you? Apologies if it is here and I've totally overlooked it :)

Street : Wow! That red coat has some real impact in such a dull, grey shot. Works very, very well.

This might also have worked well with a wider shot of Trafalgar Square. I think that red is strong enough to make it a focal point even if it was more distant.

p.s. Good luck with cloning out the legs. I don't think it will be easy, but well worth it if you can get it to work.

Love that... superb image. The red coat leaps out so well. Good luck with the cloning.

You've captured the moment very well Maria considering the circumstances surrounding this sort of photography.

I very much agree with the previous comments on this one, Maria. There just isn't the time or opportunity to get a perfect composition in this type of shot, is there.
And know what you mean about the photographing kids thing.
I manage an under11 football team and feel very awkward whenever I take a photo, even though it's with parents' permission etc.

I think the red/grey contrast is good and the scattering pigeons/motion blur of the child's feet gives impact.
I certainly feel that the suggested cloning will improve the image although I like the actual composition anyway.
As to cloning, it's like all things - the more you practise...

I love the 'pose' and the way the red coat stands out.

I find cloning easier if I do it on a new layer and tick the "use all layers" box. That way it is easier to rectify mistakes and tidy up any edges. Good luck with it - it can be quite time consuming :).

wmy rules
1. get a pic in every week, even if it's an oldie from the 'vault'

You're not one for abiding by the rules then?
