Right, I'm off to HK for a couple of weeks :D It is a city so don't expect to be able to do everything there but with what time I have I plan on get a fair bit in. I have a small list of things to see but if anyone can recommend what else to see or do that would be great. I'd like to not just see a bit of the touristy stuff but the less known stuff too, get a different view of the place. Personally I hate doing touristy stuff but sometimes you just have to do it for fun. And the £ vs $HK isn't all that great at the mo so very much doubt I'll be shopping for gear, have what I need already anyway :)
 
The view from the top of Victoria Peak is stunning and worth a visit. Head out to Lantau Island and visit the big Budda. Forget harbour cruises, take the Star Ferry from the Island to Kowloon and bag at sunset - stunning.
 
The zoo is quite good and grab a steak at Ruth Chris, nom nom :)
 
Go up into the New Territories away from the tourists. Get the hovercraft from HK to Tsuan Wan then grab the 52 bus over Route Twisk and hold on for dear life! The New Territories have lots to offer for the Photographer, it was whilst living there I took hold of my first SLR (Minolta 700i). HK is fabulous and it is easy to get around so I would make the most of it if I were you. Have a walk up to Tam-O-Shan the highest point in the New Territories, magnificent views.

The Walled Village of Kam Tin (used to live very near there) is another good place to take the camera.

Its a fantastic place, you will have a blast!

Hong Kong is a great place - it has a good public transport system and cheap reliable taxis. Kowloon is the area to explore if you want a new camera, there are a couple of shops on Caernarvon road (a bit of a side street) that do good deals for tourists... So if you don't want to spend money - that's an area to avoid :)

There are photo opportunities everywhere - it has such a mix of old and new - sometimes at street level you see shiny shop fronts, then you look up and see 1950's high rises in need of substantial repair... Everyone photographs the famous HK skyline - hope you get it on a pollutant free day! As it seems to be always misty whenever I've been there.

What part of HK are you staying in?
 
Walk the 'Dragons Back' then have a nice seafood lunch on the beach at Shek O (also there's a funny named shop called F*** Lee store!! :D). Also, head to Maxims Palace at the City Hall for your obligatory Dim Sum, it's an awesome experience. Star Ferry is a yes, as is shopping (if you like your fake stuff, try the Temple St night market, you can also eat there for next to nowt!!)
 
Maxims Palace is superb.

If you're going to do one touristy thing then the Peak is a must.

The Night Market is great.

Jimmy's Kitchen in Kowloon is an absolutely cracking restaurant, but very expensive. The Steaks in there are superb.

That's pretty much all i got to see when I was there as I was working.
 
Jimmy's is expensive now? It was one of the cheapest places to eat, if you wanted "European" food when we lived there back in the 70s!
