Narrowed the short list down to maldives.

Anyone been?

Also what would be the best filters to take as being a newish and never using filters before have read a few posts on them but still none the wiser.

Was there a few years back. Weather was anything from sunny through to low cloud and drizzle!

As far as filters go, I'd take a polariser and an ND grad - either an ND4 or an ND8. I might take my 10 stopper too (cheap welding glass one) as I like the milky water shots!

The Maldives definitely have a monsoon season, and not much fun if you are there in the middle of it.

Depending on the island that you go to, most are fairly quiet - activities are mostly based around watersports. Great if you are a diver, enjoy windsurfing etc. but can be a bit challenging if you are the sort of person that enjoys lots of sight seeing or hectic night life.

If you are not going 'all in' it's easy to rack up quite big bills. The islands that I have been to all operate on a 'tab' system; you just sign for everything as you have it. If you don't keep on top of it, it can be quite a shock at the end of a two week holiday. We find that by settling the bill at the end of the first week, it was easier to keep track of how our spending was going.

Other than that, it's a beautiful part of the world, and one of my favourite holiday destinations.

We went to the Hakura Club on our honeymoon. It was the most relaxing couple of weeks of my life. Stunning sunsets and marine life. Like others have said, if you're a party animal then it probably isn't for you. Would also recommend going to an all inclusive resort.

yeah thanks people.

Had thought that all inclusive was the way to go as they have you there so you have to eat at the restaurants.

This is the resort i think we have decided on HERE

Nah cant arsed with night life just wanna chill for the first time in my life.

Also wanna try my hand at diving can snorkel pretty well. May consider getting one of these cheap digital under water cameras.

Thanks for the advice on filters i take it if i took my 50mm 1.8 i think need a stronger filter.

Meant to add. If the island is anything like the ones I've been to, unless you intend to visit the capital island Male, you only need one pair of shoes and two pairs of socks - one to travel out in and the second to travel home in.

The rest of the time you can go barefoot.
