Hi there, what i basically want to do is add a noticable tint of colour to the light my flashgun gives off and was wondering if anyone has made any gels and had good results with them. im not too bothered about loosing light im just interested to see if i can get a noticable colour difference. if its help im looking at making a fairly bold green tint. could i use a strip of green plastic (or anything else i can find around the house) or is that a silly idea?

thanks a lot!

Jamie

Why not get yourself a free sample set of Lee Filters gels. They are just the right size

Edit:
LOL, must type quicker

Edit again:
Just go on their website and request online, you'll get the swatch in a couple of days.

Hi Jamie, a tip from the Strobist site - Get hold of a Rosco gel swatchbook, they contain all the colours they do and are just the right size to fit over a flashgun, I just recieved 3 this morning free of charge from AC lighting in Leeds, only rang up to ask for them yesterday afternoon!! :D

I sent off for the Lee filters sample pack, but before I did I had excellent results using Quality Street wrappers, taped to the end of a cardboard snoot. The blue and purple water drop shots in my gallery where done this way.

can tell me what size your samples are please? :)

Just measured and they are 90mmx40mm... with a small hole in where they are bound in the swatchbook...

if you cut this off and make them 80x40mm they are the perfect size for my lumiquest gel holder...

Obviously at 17.99 the gel holder seems expensive, but you could make one fairl easily!! (I managed to get mine on the cheap, lol)

I got the lee filters one Flash, do the Rosco ones differ in size?

Cheers MM. Mines a bigger flash head than the SB but yeah I think they are the same size.

I was thinking about this this afternoon for some smoke trail shots. Then I as wondering if the multicolour leds would give off enough light. You can adjust those for the exact colour you require

Sounds a bit daft but I also had a go with the Quality Street wrappers idea. I managed to turn my whole living room red with one over the front of my SB800 and shooting on my D300.

Not used them properly other than that quick test but it seemed to work and was also free. Any excuse to eat some chocolates is a good one in my book!

I got my sample pack a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone any advice on which are the best ones to use to correct tungsten and fluorescent lighting ?

Thanks
Jason

i have just made a few different colour filters out of grease proof paper and highlighters and felt tips, made it into a net shape glued it all together and just slides over my flashgun. great results hopefully going out tomorrow to try them all out..

so now we all have Lee's sample book, what ingenious methods have people come up with to mount them? So far, simplicity is winning for me tucking the filter into a fat rubber band.
also thought about velcro or paperclips.

hi, I notice people order some of these gels for flashes.

what do you put in the enquiry box and as your job title? I assume they dont do followup calls to the enquiry.

Does me...

My company is an authorised distributor for Lee Filters, (they wont deal directly to the public) and i was chatting to a sales guy the other day. He mentioned business was pretty slow, but he had a lot of hope from new orders, as he had sent out over 100 colour swatches in the last month:lol:
