I'm looking for a home studio lighting setup. The main use would be for portraits and headshots for actors/models.

I can stretch to around £200 at the moment and would look to expand after I've gained more experience with lighting etc.

I'll be using a Canon 40D as the main body so looking for something compatible with that.

Thank for any help :)

you could get one of the ebay ones, but they're not compatible with any other bits so if you decided to expand then you would have to sell it and get something better like lecarta are you shooting indoors are are you on location (outside), if you're just shooting indoors you could get a couple of cheap flashes brollies & wireless triggers

I would try ebay for some quality second hand flash heads before spending £200 on a new but poor quality gear. I have used elinchrom gear for years and some of the older heads like the 250 or 500 you can pick up for £50 each. One of each with a couple of brolly's and stands will do for a startup. You will need a sync cable too but they are pretty cheap if you shop around. Another option is a infra red transmitter which will trigger these lights without the need to be cabled up.

Hope this helps

As I've recommended a few times, get a single Lencarta Smartflash and the largest softbox you can afford/have room for.

I honestly believe you'll be more than happy with the results especially with what you've said you'll be shooting.

Thanks for the replies :)

I'll look into what's been suggested.
