Hi all i am in the middle of building my small home studio, i am not sure about the colour i know black matt would be best, but i was thinking would i get away with dark grey ceiling. 3 walls will be white and 1 grey and going to use black drapes to stop spill when shooting.

Size is 18ft x 12ft height 61/2 ft at the eaves to 8ft at the peak

Any thoughts on this...

Hi Peter.
I went for white walls and a black ceiling. All in Matt finish. The idea behind the white walls is my studio is only 12ft wide so if I have a slightly larger group in and I'm shooting a white b/g it's easy to use the walls as an extension of the b/g. Also I have black drapes for when I want to keep stray light at bay.

No, not at all. In fact it makes the ceiling seem higher. It really makes a difference with lighting control. The problem with grey (in my experience) is unless you get a truly neutral grey, you may get a colour cast from it.
Glad to hear the studio is coming on. Be great to see some pictures.

I think grey would be the best colour. Just try and font a really neutral grey. A lot of the mixes have red tones in them. I suppose it's not too much of a problem if you don't mind doing custom white balance each shoot.
If I wasn't doing so many white b/g shoots (which I detest) I'd repaint grey.
