What are you asking for, space-wise when discussing home portrait based shoots? Obviously you can achieve a good amount in a relatively small area sometimes but how much clearance do you require to make sure people can move around, keep well in front of backdrops etc?

I've got some sheets that are 3m square and they fit just about perfectly for my backdrop. Our rooms are 8ft high so by the time I've got it clipped on there's a couple of feet to fold onto the floor. I got a couple of cloths with the backdrop that are 2.5m wide and 5m long so I can use them as a runway if necessary.

I've had the wife and 3 kids in front of it and had no problems getting them in without seeing the edges of the backdrop. I could maybe get another 1 or 2 in as well but that would be a bit of a squeeze.

I had a group shot of 6 adults and 4 children in the studio not long ago. 12ft wide.
Quite easy really, white infinity curve and white walls, the black ceiling was a 2 minute fix in ps.
Shot with a 24-70/2.8.
I think about 12ft is a good width.
Dean.

What I'm wondering though is how many people can fit such a large setup in their houses? I have been quoting 3x3m for most things and usually people drop out at that point.
