Well I finally got off my ass today and had a go at building a softbox. It's only about 16" square and will atach with parcel tape to my flash head :D I made it out of a box my BBQ came in and an old white shower curtain has made the diffuser for the front, and a layer elastic banded over the front of the flashgun has helped siffuse it even more. I'll be shooting with my wife later tonight so watch out for my pics :) Although they may have to go in the N&G section :naughty:

Edit: I 'll post my method up too :D

I took a box or two, and cut some pieces out measuring 16" at the long end and 3 1/2" at the shorter end, making an equal trapezium shape. 4 of these are taped together to give the regular softbox shape. A cut up wire coathanger helps support the box in the corners and along the long edges. White shower curtain taped over the end diffues the light, and a smaller piece streched over the flashgun helps diffuse even more. The whole thing bsically tape over the end of my flash gun, and the whole assembly nearly rips the trigger off my tripod

Will post up images later.

Just tried mine out, it's not brilliant, still getting fairly hard shadows. Might buy some mount board and try something a bit bigger, and find a better way of getting rid of the hot-spot in the middle.

make sure your flash is on it's widest setting!

Yeah it was, it's an old Vivitar flash, you literally grab the front of it and pull the lens out for medium and tele settings

I'm going to find a bigger box I think, may as well, I've already destroyed perfectly good shower curtain!
