I'm not quite so lucky this time. I usually get a good deal on car insurance through the meerkat.

Home insurance is up 80 quid on last year.
The meerkat saved me 40 quid but that is still up 40 quid on last year, at around £200.

yeah my Car was quite a bit couldnt do much about it this time,
all the gocompares were about the same, even my prefered Hastings wasn't on comparisom
my house due in march

I was very lucky on the car, I saved well over £100 on the new quote, and about £20 on the previous years premium.
I guess you can't win 'em all.

Our house insurance went up too, just short of £200, it was £140 last year. Even shopping around didn't make much difference so we stayed as is.

Car insurance in February, that will be interesting.

Pretty much everything's up in the last couple of years, insurance just another in the long line.

Strange that whenever you ring them to cancel, because you’ve found a cheaper quote, insurance companies usually manage to drop their price. I had an agent suddenly drop £55 off the quoted premium this year when I rang. It was still £30 more than I’d found for an equivalent policy elsewhere though so they didn’t get the business.

I never phone to haggle. If they can't offer me "best price" initially, stuff'em.

i always do the gocompare first and look on quidco as there is often £20-£30 cashback , never bank on it but its a billy bonus.
I then if i feel there is better deal give the company a quick call , not engaging with them like you do is simply not going to work,

I always compare the meerkat when the quote comes through, if I find one cheaper I go with that.
Not engaging with them doesn't work for THEM. their loss.
as I said above

I had to phone them to cancel the automatic policy renewal, something else that really winds me up about insurers ! I did try to cancel the renewal online but it’s either not an option or it’s incredibly well hidden on their site. When the agent asked why I was cancelling and I responded with “you’re too expensive”, it was then they came back with the lower quote.

That winds me up to! it should be illegal IMO.

Sometimes the don't auto-renew button is hidden in the T&C page ( who actually reads it all?)
The recent one was after the how can they will contact you bit.
But generally it is that you have to phone to cancel.

We had a flood a couple of years back (it won't happen again since we took steps to mitigate, and by mopping etc for several hours managed to confine damage to a single room). Insurance went from about £400/year to 'being lucky' to get it for £800/year, and going via our regular broker we were looking at £1500/year.

November. Managed to 'talk' home insurance down from £385 to £302.

I think the premiums will be much more next year considering we're up to the 7th named storm already all with torrents of rain and gale force winds.some reaching hurricane force in gusts and we haven't even got to the traditional mid- January > February storms yet. Looks like named storm eight is on the way ..Henk.

Our renewal is in, only a few quid increase so I’ll call to pay and try a haggle with the threat to move the cover to another company, usually works as they seem to build in a giveaway, not up enough to waste time getting various quotes elsewhere
