Going on holiday a surfing holiday in a week or so, so Im hoping to take lots of piccies on the beach. I have a 400D, is there any problems with taking it to the beach? Salt and sand in the air etc, is there anything specific I need to do to safeguard the camera?

When you are not using it put the cam in good zipped up cam bag inside a plastic bag with a clothes peg or around the neck.

Sand'll still get in but that should keep it down
 
That's all good advice, as it served me well when last on a beach. I'd also add to that if you take a tripod, be careful not to get too much sand in any joints if you can help it, especially around the head when the camera is not on it. Although it still works ok, it's irritatingly crunchy! :shake:

All good advice, but be slightly carefull of the plastic bag one, if you leave it anywhere in direct sunlight, even in another bag, it may cause condensation in the bag, so put in plastic bag then wrap up in a towel then in your camera bag, you will be amazed how much sand you will get in it. Also beware for the salt spray from the sea, wipe the camera over at the end of each day, I use those moist wipes you can get, the wipe it over with a dry cloth.
If you do get sand inside the camera DO NOT clean it with a wet type sensor clean, use a bulb blower or a brush system the sand can destroy your sensor.

Can I ask where your going on holiday surfing and which dates, as i'm away in a few weeks also.
 
Thanks everyone for your advice. All very good points, I would blatantly be changing lenses and making a sand pit out of my camera in no time :bonk: . Anymore suggestions, keep em comin.

Leaving on the 27th for 2 weeks, going to Royan in South West France :woot:
 
If you can get some put a bag of silica gel in the plastic bag to absorb any of the moisture.

We've not long been back from a surfing holiday in Biarritz, France.

Some great swells and nice waves over there at the moment!

silica. availible at any florist im sure they will give you some or sell you some cheap

I am quite the novice if I'm honest. We are going with another couple who want to get into it, so we are all going down with the intention of mastering some basic skills. So I hope I will be good enough to appreciate the waves by the end of the holiday.
