Yes
I would like to go somewhere in Spain for our holiday next year. We will be going with another family, so I am looking for 2 villas close to each other (don't want one big villa as we want some breathing space)

We don't want anywhere too busy, but would like to be near some bars and restaurants.

I have heard that Costa Brava is quite nice.

Anyone got any recommendations?

O.K. I'm no tourist buro and I don't get commissions on it either:lol:

But why don't you consider coming to South Africa?

It might be a longer flight but we have quite a bit to see and whatever pocket money you bring becomes 13-14 what it was when you left the U.K.

Or Panama via a canoe (cheap)?

Spain is being invaded by brits, anywhere with bars will be busy in my opinion...

I can highly recommend Gran Canaria for a Spanish feel, but quieter (on the western side of the island), and with plenty of good quality, empty beaches. Excellent fresh sea food too. Loads of apartments and villas available too.

Any pix available?

We stayed in Puerto Mogan. Here's a couple:

I'd love to go to SA, but there are 6 of us and I imagine flights would be quite expensive.

What do you mean when you say it will be 13 or 14 of what it was in UK? Is everything 13 times cheaper?

That looks really nice. How close are the bars and restaurants?

Thanks for the replies so far.

Anyone got any pics of Codsta Brava?

Puerto Mogan is an old fishing village, with apartments and a few hotels built in and around it. Nothing is more than about 5-10 minutes' walk in any direction, as the village is bordered on two sides by cliffs, one side by the sea and the island side by rugged hills.

We stayed here. It was very good value (the summer months are considered low season there, as most Europeans go in the winter, when it's still 25 degrees and sunny). Beachfront apartments are dearer as you'd expect. Self catering is easy - there's a hypermarket within walking distance which has an attached (underground) entertainment area. There are no nightclubs to speak of in Puerto Mogan, and so no late night music to worry about (perfect for getting children off to sleep!). It has a man-made beach (thousands of tonnes of Saharan sand), which has a protective harbour wall, so no Atlantic currents, and over 20 degrees! We swam in the sea every morning :)

Cheap flights via Thomson from Gatwick too, on the charter planes going to the bigger resorts over there. For flights, transfers, accommodation, entertainments food and drink, it cost just over £1000 for the week for three of us in August.

Funnily enough I have a villa which I rent out in Spain www.villabegur.com
It is in a town called Begur, which is in the Costa Brava. It's an amazing town on a hill with cobbled streets and a castle on top. There's no sign of naff shops and egg and chip restaurants, just classy well priced boutiques and nice restaurants and tapas bars.

My mate owns the house next door and we have rented them out together before.

I'd have no problem giving a discount to TP members but we tend to sell out for the summer holidays within days of releasing the price list the September the year before! There is an availability calender on the site, if you're interested pm me.

Quite simple (although I cannot really comment on the price of flights as I haven't watched them lately)

Bring 100 GB Pounds and convert it to ZA Rands and you walk away with around 1300 - 1400 bucks.

To give you an example: The Missus and I go for dinner at a very nice upmarket local restaurant. We have a starter each, I would have a good single malt. (A few fruit juices or other similar drinks added through the evening)

We both have a main meal and desert and the bill would be around 300 - 400 bucks. Divide this by 13,5 or so to see what you paid for a very nice dinner in a good restaurant - 25 Pounds or so?

If you go to a family restaurant like Spur you could get away at around 100 bucks p/p which works out to well below 10 GBP.

Meat is cheap and the weather is great when it doesn't scorch.

A Kg of good rump (raw) should set you back about 5 GBP!

10 GBP in a good restaurant!

Need I say more?

And, with SA - there's Biltong!
