Yes
After spending 2 weeks editing my holiday video I've accidently deleted the folder. I thought I was deleting 8 clips that I copied from the folder to my desktop but instead of them going in the recycle bin (as usual) I got a message saying something like 'these files are too big for the recycle bin do you want to permanently delete these files' I clicked 'yes' and afterwards noticed that the folder I had the clips in had also gone. Does anyone know if there is a chance of recovering the folder??? Thanks for reading.

Perhaps this

I surmise there are other tools available?

Probably can be recovered, but each time you use the PC, that could make it less likely.

When you "delete" a file, it does not delete it from the disk, but just marks the part of the disk the file is on as available for use, which means it can be written over at any time, once it has been written over, it can not ever be recovered.

If the files were not on the same disk as the OS, remove it until you have found and experimented with a recovery programme

There are several deleted file recovery programmes available, many for free, and of course there are professional services who will take the disk and recover what they can.

I haven't used any for more than 4 years now. Best to search and try on a different machine if you can't remove the disk the files were on.

Might the files still be on memory cards? Could be worth trying recovery software on the cards to see if it can retrieve the videos.

I have tried a few free recovery programs overnight but they either haven't found anything or I haven't used them correctly. I still have all the original raw clips, it's 2 weeks of editing I have lost, so going to start all over again once I get in the mood. Ahhhhh! Thanks for your suggestions guys.

Something for the cold, wet weekends to come!
