HND Photography

Hello Everyone.

I start HND photography Sep 30 2013. Anyone any advice . The past two years I have been doing A level (AS1 and AS2} Got a B . Does anyone know what Statutory modules there are ...I asked at the college last week and received no info at all told their was a letter on the way... the letter only gave me the term time table.

Hi Woodstock, I have just completed an HND in Photography, The advice I would give is as follows: Try to attend as much as possible, make as much use as possible of the Colleges / University's resources. Work with your fellow students and share knowledge, tips on where to buy paper etc. If in doubt ask your tutors.
Look for opportunities within your college to build your portfolio, I did quite a lot of work with the Performing Arts and the Hair & Beauty depts at Llandrillo College.
As to the mandatory modules, I think this depends on the accrediting body e.g. Edexcel

While there will be a lot of similarity between HND courses, each college will favour certain modules depending on skill sets / experience of tutors.
The other factor I encountered on my course was an emphasis on photography as art and its contextualisation in history and society. Some course may favour a more commercial or practical emphasis. In the first year there was a reasonable amount of guidance, but the second year was much a case of you decide what you want to do and how your going to do it (along with how it meets the module outcomes) with tutorials to check your progress. Over all you will need to be very much self motivated and don't put off work, it can build up very quickly.
