im postie90 (steve) new to this forum and also photography really, ive only ever taken shots with a point and shoot and mainly my iphone, looking to buy a middle of the road DSLR been looking at Wex photographic... the canon EOS 650D with 18-135mm lens... £789
so the reasons for buying a camera are my wife is expecting our baby beginning of july, and want lots a pictures of our child who wouldn't...
so my first question is ive noticed there are a few options with this camera
a 18-55 lens and a 18-135 lens... what would i be best with and what does the larger lens mean? many thanks to anyone who is prepared to put up with me for a while steve.:)

I've just found this forum has its own app!! Brilliant!!

Can I Ask how many posts need to agin access to the classifieds? Thanks.

Hi Steve, welcome

Hi and welcome! The higher the numbers the greater the ability to zoom so in practice the easier it is to get closer and frame the subject and photo that you want. As you get a bit more creative you will probably look more at F no's (apertures) where the lower the number the "faster" the lens (and most irregularly the Larger the actual aperture of the lens) this means that the lovely 50mm 1.8 doesn't have any zoom but because of its low f no. you can focus on a very precise part of the subject and this will be very clear whereas the rest of the image will be nicely blured.
