My partner proposed on my birthday last week and am now in the throes of organising a wedding for next May. Need a tog but don't want to pay the earth. Any wedding togs out there that can advise on prices. I'm not looking for an OTT album full of dreamy looking images. Want some nice posed and candid exposures of my day. If someone wants some experience and lives in the Birmingham area I'm open to suggestions.

Congratulations!!!

Can't help on the tog front but I hop e you have a fab day

The cost really depends on what you want, both album wise and coverage, whether you want the CD of images ( many don't offer this or charge extra ), and what sort of style of shots you want. And the most important bit... Do you like the photographer and can you get on with them. Remember the Tog is the one person with you for the entire day.

You need to basically look at lots of portfolios and find someone who meets your requirements.

Thank you all very much :):):)

Thanks for the advice Pete much appreciated :)

Congratulations :)

I believe that most wedding magazines suggest a minimum of 10% of the wedding budget to be used for the photographer, I suspect you would be looking in the region of £800-£1500 depending on the coverage you want.

As Pete says you will be with that person for the entire day so make sure you get on. The other thing to remember is that the photographs of the wedding will last for generations so IMO it's worth spending al little more on the photographer than on the meal, the car etc.

I got married yesterday and had a photographer local to our area (about 40 mins from Birmingham) and for a his DVD option he is asking £1800-1900 :o

Rather shocking. He knew the venue though and was very good, friendly and really seemed to care about what he was doing.

I doubt we will go with the DVD option, but that was rather at the top of the budget I think. We are probably looking at £1200-1400 for a typical album.

I can't advise anyone cheaper, but will say, make sure that however much you are paying, make sure they know what they are doing and are professional with it!
