Just a quickie...

is a snoot most commonly used item to highlight hair? I have been reading the DIYP site and well a snoot is easy to make for the speed light. So just wondering how you high light your models hair and if you ever use a snoot.

There are several different ways.

A reflective umbrella can be a good approach because although the light direction is controlled it is also broad, so it shouldn't be a problem if the subject moves around a bit.

A honeycomb produces more directional, controlled lighting and has the advantage that it can be used as backlighting without causing flare (if the angle is correct). The disadvantage is that the model can easily move out of the light, so it isn't very suitable if the subject isn't static.

A snoot does basically the same job as a honeycomb but without the advantage of controlling flare.

Both snoots and honeycombs can soak up a lot of light
