I edit on a MBP retina with screen resolution set to "best" which is ~ 1/2 of max. But LR and PS are running in high resolution which makes 100% view about 1/2 the size of on the web and other programs (like the preview app).
The net result is that images on the web at 100% look worse than they do when editing at 100% (granted, they are twice the size and not generally viewable in entirety at 100%).

This brings me to a quandary... I used to think 50% view was fine for print editing, is that now 100%? And 100% was necessary for some large display situations and 100% view on the web, is that now 200%? I could run PS/LR in low resolution mode which matches everything else, would that be advisable? Or is using the higher resolution of the monitor better?

What do others do? Is it a game of "lowest common denominator" and "web standards"? What are those these days?

I edit on a Retina display at recommended res. Everything looks fine on the web and print. I think you maybe overthinking things.

What versions are you running? Are you running them in high resolution mode?
It wasn't until LR5(something) and CC2015 that the programs would run in high resolution on a Mac/retina. For a while I had a "mismatch" between LR5 (high res) and PS CS6 (low res) which took me a while to figure out.

I run CC so have the latest versions of both. I don't run LR in the highest res as I find it all to small. I just use the default recommended res.

Yeah, if I set LR/PS to run in low resolution they will use the screen settings instead of native/max resolution... maybe that is the best choice (I've never seen it "recommended" though).
