Hi All

I'm looking at buying a hide for owl spotting. Thing is, which one should I be looking for?

I bought a camo ghillie suit two weeks ago, but after trying it on I've got a feeling I could easily be shot by police in it once people phone up saying they've seen big foot haha.

help.

My experience in wildlife photography is that if you shoot predators, the only
thing that counts is that they know where you are. They may come close or
not while hunting but you will not surprise them!

Shooting preys is very different except for water birds. They may prefer to keep
distance to you but that's only good for your long lenses.

I have nothing to add but.... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

edit to add, ok, I'll add a little more than that...
fwiw, I've not used a hide or camo with any of my owls, this may or may not have cost me some great shots, but actually I've found perseverance has yielded some good results too. Most of my owl spotting is in public accessible locations, setting up a hide on a path is not terribly practical and I wouldn't want to stray into the actual fields and end up stomping on the farmers crops.

If you've found yourself a good location, give it time and see if you can spot a recurring pattern to their movements, e.g. a commonly using 'hunting field', or what time they leave the house/box, etc etc, it all helps to build that picture (y)

I've found one place where my friend spotted one around a month back. I've also in a local field found a barn owl box so this is a good indication of where to start.hopefully I still have time in 2015 to get one

Make your own hide to suit the surroundings if you have the owl(s) in their territory or favoured hunting spots ,its only a few pieces of timber and some camo netting, I used camo material from a warehouse near Skipton pretty cheap and it would attach to the timber with a staple gun ,that's if you can leave it in situ ,nine times out of ten no one will touch it.

You could sit quietly in your normal clothes, just cover your hands and face.
I find that it's the flesh that shines like a beacon that seems to be the worst thing for alerting/scaring wildlife all things considered.

I'm thinking of building a hide. Can you tell me where in Skipton you got the Camo netting from?

Hi its not the netting(that you can get easily on ebay) its the camouflaged fabric ,the shop is in the centre of skipton down a side street ,in fact its a small warehouse

Just to hijack this slightly. I'm looking to get some camo netting to make a makeshift and portable hide. Approximately what amount of netting will I need to buy. Also is it worth buying any particular brand or will any old net suffice
