Hello all.

Just a quick introduction: -

I'm retired and a returner to photography after a long absence. Back in the day I used a Yashica FX-D SLR, then got a compact camera with built in flash bought mainly for holiday snaps, before pretty well forgetting about my Yashica altogether as compacts were so much easier to use and carry about. Eventually went for digital compacts, then a camcorder that also took decent stills, before abandoning that for phone cameras.

I've still been using my camcorder to make YouTube videos to this day (I'm an amateur musician) but a couple of weeks ago the tape deck started to show signs of wearing out, so I needed something to replace it with; enter the mirrorless SLR.

And now I'm the proud owner of a Canon M50 Mk II which has all the video capability I need (and more), but also plenty of scope for creative photography, which has rekindled my interest (at least for now!).

So please be tolerant when I ask a load of daft questions about modern digital photography! :)

Welcome Jim and I'm sure you'll get the answers you want and need (and probably others you don't!).
You'll see that we are trying to build up a bit the video side of the site as it's primarily still photography, but we have a thriving Film & Conventional side as well as the digital if you want to get the old Yashica out again!

Hi Jim, welcome to the forum, my mate still has and uses his Yashica film camera, not sure what model it is though?
Have fun here and get posting and asking :welcome:

Thanks for the welcome.

@lindsay - I might well use my Yashica at least once - when I got it out of the loft to get the lenses to try on my Canon I found it had an unused film loaded in it! Boots Universal 400asa according to the film box top left in the camera's rear slot.

Go on Jim, you know you want to! Looking forward to the report of how you get on. Take a look at our FPOTY challenge, you might want to join in (you don't have to wait till January)

Hi Jim, And welcome aboard TP, looking forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing some of your images on the various forums. "Enjoy"

@lindsay I doubt if I'm ready for a competitive challenge yet, but maybe in the future. I have no idea if the old film will even work - it's been in the camera for at least 20 years, probably longer (though stored in benign conditions). That'll probably be my first proper question on the forums in fact.

Thanks @G.K.Jnr.

Welcome Jim and good luck with that old film :D

Here's hoping you enjoy the forum :D
