Hi,

I have finally taken the plunge & joined a photography forum & I have also just bought a 'used' Canon 40D EOS to get me going, so me being me I know now that I'll be asking seemingly naive questions about every aspect of photography & cameras!!

So be warned as you will probably been asked this sort of stuff a million times already!!

Right then here goes, can you advise me on an everyday starter lens please, just so that I can start & get used to this new Canon of mine.

Welcome to TP, Willie.

I am not au fait with Canon lenses, but I suggest that you look for a good basic all rounder such as a zoom in the focal range of about 35 - 105 mm or thereabouts. That would be a good start for general photography.
