Hi Folks

I understand that if I'm doing a Panorama then I dont need the final image to use all of the D810's resolution or that would be a massive file. But what issues do I have with high'ish ISO. If I'm handheld at the top of the Empire state/TOTR can I get away with High ISO the same way as I would Low resolution.

If not what would be the best solution as its going to have to be hand held.

I own two D810's. their resolution is precious to me.

As much as this feature is important, there is a severe price
to pay for it. This price is expressed in pixel size, tiny, tiny,
tiny pixel! And the same pixel count is not forgirveful in terms
of critical sharpness and high ISO.

Great camera but wrong tool for this ambition of yours. I would
prefer my D3S or even my D3X for that job.

I'm not sure that I understand what the question is.

Are you asking whether the D810 is noisy at high ISO? Or are you asking whether you should lower the resolution? Or something else?

Sorry for the late reply I'm back now. But for future info.

I was asking whether I could shoot with high ISO and stack in PS to reduce the noise....

We ended up the rock during the day as we were running out of time. If anyone reads this there are a number of stable ledges that if your lucky you could rest your cameras on.........Wish I'd known that before the last night...lol

But what does that have to do with panoramas?

Whether I could stack multiple shots to remove noise then create a Panorama with the stacked shots.

Isn't this something the astro guys do with their deep space stuff
