Some may scoff but i bought a Canon SX50 HS bridge camera. I'm a complete novice but very keen to learn and practice. I bought the camera second hand for £150 with a 2 year warranty.
i really like it and am having fun with it. I'm only a week in and i'm hooked. i'm off Auto mode but still finding things a little confusing, i'm mainly using Aperature mode for now. My dog has been photgraphed more than Kim Kardashian this week i reckon.
Anyways hello. Get used to me being around as im gonna be here quite often by the looks of it.

Hi and welcome to TP

Photography is a lifelong learning curve.......enjoy the journey.

Ask questions as they arise and by all means share your photographs and as you see fit in the "critique" sections.....to help your learning curve

Hi and welcome to TP.
There is lots of information on all sorts of topics, here.
I'm sure you will find what you are looking for.

Canon SX50 HS bridge camera.
I had one for quite a while, its a very capable bridge camera.

Hi and welcome.

Nothing wrong with a bridge camera, that’s where I started.
Nothing wrong with Aperture Priority mode either as long as you understand what Av mode is doing and why you are using it over Tv or M.

There’s nothing that says you have to shoot in manual mode to be a good photographer.

Welcome to the forum...

Although I am not a Canon user, I know someone who has an SX-series Canon and she loves it!

Dog photos please!

Welcome! Ask questions - there’s no such thing as a stupid question (despite what the mods say about me :p ).
