I recently purchased a Nikon camera with two telephoto lenses. Just experimenting with using it. Many years ago I had SLR 35mm camera but drifted out of this as a hobby due to other commitments. I am now at the age when I am looking to get back into it. Oh, how things have changed. I am enjoying the digital format although have a lot to learn. Hoping to produce a few notelets/greetings cards using my photos just for personal use. No real idea how to start! Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there Alan, welcome to the forum, enjoy yourself here :welcome:

Hi Alan and welcome to TP.

As you may have found by looking around already there are all(almost all?) photographic genre covered here. Furthermore the subject of post processing etc.

PS if you are intending to get cards commercially printed, I can recommend a company I have used as they were the only one at the time that had a small minimum volume. Having said that I have also made the odd card by printing a photo at home and craft making the card using a Matt printing paper to create the greetings card and sticking the photo to it. But perhaps mentioning this is jumping the gun for you right now!?

Many thanks for your reply. Interesting that you can make cards at home. That is ideally what I would like to do. I have produced printed cards many years ago but I no longer have access to the equipment involved. I am attempting to produce similar cards but find that my old printer is not up to standard. I am looking to make A5 size folded cards with a printed image on the first page.

You're welcome.

Just some aspects for you to consider.

Firstly stating the obvious......

If you are printing, whether at home or commercially, you need to prepare the image files in a colour managed way. In other words what you are endeavouring to achieve is a print that looks as close as practically possible to what you are seeing on your computer screen.

Suffice to say this is what I have done.

In regard to my very limited home printing. The reason I have printed as photograph and then created a card was because I can be sure to that the print is as good a quality as I can get i.e. Canon inks onto Canon paper.

Yes, you can buy pre-creased A5 photographic papers (typically with envelopes & cellophane sleeve) but without creating a colour profile for that paper with the Canon inks there is no assurance that the print would, for me, be as good as I can get re: above using Canon papers & inks.

PS my printer is the Canon TS8250

Many thanks for your very informative reply. I will investigate and let you know how I get on. I would like to produce at home rather than get somebody else to do it but can see I have a lot to learn. Well I guess that's what hobbies are about! Looking forward to the journey. :)

Welcome from West Yorkshire. I was born in the Waveney valley and started my photography there.
