I’ve finally taken the plunge after debating for a few years now and got a DSRL camera. So I thought I’d better introduce myself….. As it more than likely that I will be asking very basic and/or silly questions, dearly hoping that female prerogative and the ‘A question isn’t silly if you don’t know the answer’ comes into play.

As you can see from my thread title, I live in a beautiful and diverse place, I say diverse as the Quantock hills are only 10 minutes away, and I drive across them to work, I have access to diverse beaches, sandy to rocky…. And with two dogs to accompany me well what more need I say…

But photography plays a large part in my main hobby, Genealogy there’s always a church, head stone, house, school, or a document hidden in a record office that needs photographing to build the picture of the family tree.. Alas you really start noticing the limitations of the point and shoot camera when you’re in the Record Office… And it’s this that’s probably was the last justification for entering the world of the DSRL….

I’ve ended up with a Canon EOS 1200D, I had actually decided on the Nikon D5200 that was until I actually went to buy the camera and had a good chat with the assistant, who went through all the pro’s and con’s of each… One of the deciding factors in the end for me, was I found the menu easier to use, and the layout of the controls better on the Canon than I did on the Nikon….

Greeting Jo, And welcome aboard TP, looking forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing some of your images on the various forums."Enjoy".

Hi Jo!
There's a few of us TPers in Somerset, I'm in the Mendip Hills :)
Hodder's Combe at Holford and Kilve / Shurton beaches are amazing landscape locations.
Have fun and do post something on TP.
Duncan

Welcome to the forum.. .. Don't be shy in asking anything :D

Thank you for the welcome

I know it's taking me a couple of days to reply, but alas been in work.

But I have managed to get a couple plays with the camera...

Nothing amazingly interesting though..

Flowers in the garden and the dogs.. Well I say dogs, Jones my German Shepherd X Corgi, is camera shy so not an easy feat to get his tail in frame! But Ellie as you can see from my avatar is quite a poser! And Ellie as enjoyed posing as I faff, first taking a shot with the Auto setting, the faffing with different settings to see what I get...

@Duncan.

I almost went to KIlve last week, but decided at the last minute to go onto Holford, but Kilve is certainly on my list though.

Hi Jo and a warm welcome to TP.
Hope you enjoy yourself here :)

Glad you did the right thing with your choice of camera - not just cos you've bought a Canon :D, but you tried it out and chose what worked best for you
