Hi,
I,ve been lurking for a week or two, once I decided to take the plunge with an upgrade from a compact to a DSLR. Currently I,m waiting for funds to develop, but I did have my eye on the Nikon D80. Reading a bit further, some advice is to wait until PMA starts as it highly likely that Nikon will announce its successor to the D80. Not that I will wait for that to appear in the shops, but perhaps the D80 prices may take a tumble:lol:
Can I ask how long it usually take from announcement to the market place for new models?

Thanks for pointing it out Keith. £680 inc 18-55mm lens sounds good for all the features. Have to wait until March though:(

Im a new member here and ordered my D80 with a 18-70mm lens just last night. I was also thinking about waiting for the replacement for the D80 but thought what the heck. After alot of reading reviews from mags and members comments from forums, it seemed like a good choice.

How come its not available till march? Lens not in stock?
 
....I was refering to the yet-to-be-released Canon 450D.

I,m half thinking of 'what the heck' as well - there's a few D80's about for an attractive price. Even if the D80 replacement is some way off, it may spur a D80 price drop. Can I ask where you ordered yours from?

I went for Jessops. I know i could have got it abit cheaper elsewhere but if anything went wrong then at least there are plenty of stores near. I payed £670 i think.

Well I also ended up getting the D80 with the 18-70mm lens kit from my local Jessops. Had a bit of a sale on it, so paid £659. Then I,ve got a spare battery from ebay, £11 inc p&p, an Extreme III 4gb from Onestop, £26 inc, a camera bag from ebay, £11, inc and a close up screw-on lens set also from ebay £15. Thats also I,m spending this month - I think the next purchase will be a zoom lens, maybe the nikon 300mm VR, or something equivalent if I can find it at the right price.
