Hi There. I'm a wee Lancashire lad and I have a wee spot of bother.
I own an EOS 500d as my main Camera which I use with my old EF EOS 500 lenses ( a 28-80 and a 70-210 i think..both Cannon kit lenses. I use a a little wide angle lens screwed on the front of my 28-80 lens to get it to a wide angle lens with the 1.6x sensor ), a little lumix FX7 that I keep with me for those just in case occassions and an AE-1 Program ( which itself has a rather interesting backstory which is probably for another time).
Unfortunately my AE-1 P is in need of a major service which I will do as soon as I am able. So I will be saving some money on film in the short term....
My problem is...my lenses basically....I need a faster Telephoto Lens for sports , specifically motorsport photography and I need a good quality Macro lens capable of very close focusing to indulge my passion for vintage pens...trying to get a good ultra close up of a fountain pen nib with full detail is rather difficult....
I can't afford a new lens , nor can I afford expensive "pro" lenses ( and as an amateur can't justify them ) ... I was wondering if anybody had any good suggestions. I was toying with the idea of getting an older manual lens having experience using manual focusing lenses with my AE-1 P...obviously for some wierdly obscure reason it's near impossible to fit an FD mount lens to an EF Cannon mount....however it is easy enough to get an M42 or OM or something similair to fit both Cameras....so I do not need to double up on all my lenses which I can neither afford nor do I have space for.
I do not know whether to go for a prime lens or a zoom lens for my Macro work. I don't really understand all the specs on the plethora of lenses available...remember i'm on a budget. I may even end up with a far better everyday lens than my 28 - 80 ... I just need to get my head around step up (down? ) metering....as for the telephoto..i am genuinely baffled..LOL...
ANyway any suggestions greatly appreciated...i'm hoping someone will have the answers i seek
