Hi

My name is Tony & from Liverpool, I have recentley taken up doing bushcraft with wild camping trips.
I currently own a Nikon Coolpix L120 which is a great little camera. But now i want to start getting more into photography of the the wildlife which i encounter whilst out & about, but due to being on a very restricted budget i was considering starting off with a 35mm SLR.
I bet this question has been asked loads of times but could anybody give any advise on the best 35mm SLR i could look at to start with?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tony nice to see more people from the north west ;)

I presume you are talking digital...

An SLR will add weight to your camping kit quite a bit! Depends on budget but a second hand Canon 40d will be just under £300 and would be a great start. Add a 50mm 1.8 lens for around £70 and you have a great starting SLR combo, not perfect for wildlife but will get you started and then you could save for a 70-200 f4L...

Send me a pm if you want and I can give you my email so you can ask anymore questions directly or head to the equipment section :)

Hi Rob

Thanks for the response, but i was actually thinking of a 35mm film camera. Like i said has im learning i would like to go back to the raw basics & try & learn the good old fashioned way. So any recommendations would be really appreciated.

Cheers

Well in that case have a look at the Canon EOS 5 a cracking film SLR that can be had for under £100. Just be aware the cost of film and processing soon adds up now!

I had the EOS 5 for a while and loved it but found the other costs quite prohibitive. The people in the film section are amazingly helpful though so why not post there if you need some help :)
