Hi all im from dorset

i havent a Clue about Photography but it has always interested me and i love looking at pictures

I need a new hobby so i am going to splash out on a DSLR

What do you think about the 400d or 450 d is it worth me spending the extra cash?

I will probably buy second hand if i can!

Any good books for a complete novice?

I look foward to being a member on here

cheers all

Hey, you're local!

450d is a great starting camera. Check out the boots offer on the bargins section under for sale!

A good book to start with is Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson.

Good luck

Welcome to the group Karl.

As you say you are thinking about buying a second hand camera irrespective of make, don't go by how old the camera is. Its the amount of use it has had, and this can be found out by whats called "shutter actuations" or in other words the number of times the shutter has worked. The place you buy it from will be able to tell you.

Bit like buying a car ,one car only a year old may have 60,000 miles on the clock while a 3year old car may only have 5000 miles , if that is a good comparrison to go by.

As for how much to pay, set a limit, you will always find that one a little bit more expensive, and don't forget to allow for the price of a lens and memory card as well. They will have to be included in your costing.

As for make, see which you find comfortable to hold and easier for you to use, different makes have different ways to alter settings. so go into a camera shop and try a few out even if you don't buy from there, getting ones hands on a camera is worth looking at 100 reviews.

Most if not all camera come with a manual which give instructions on how to use, but actually taking photos and making mistakes is the quickest way to learn. Even now experts make mistakes only they get deleted so nobody sees them.

Hope this may give you some idea of how to go about getting a camera, good luck
