Hi everyone,

My name is Marco,I'm new to the DSLR world, my girlfriend has just bought me a Nikon d3100, 18-55 mm lens and a tripod as I really want to get into photography.
Someone recommended me this forum an I have been following and reading bits and bobs for a while and seems really helpful, looking forward to learn loads and hopefully get a lot of help from everyone.

Merry Christmas to all.

Marco

No - but the numptie that gave me my nickname was... And, in fairness, I'm not exactly petite, so I decided to stick with it:shrug:

Lol I only asked as I'm a member of another forum and there's someone with the username thebigyin aswell.

Thanks mate, been wanting one for a long time:) I've started taking some pics which I'm quite happy with.
My sister has paid for a 6 hour(all in one day) photography course for me to do, so I'm looking forward to learning new things. I've been reading te manual but would be easier shown aswell.

my first D40 manual was c*rap

the next D5000 manual was equally c*rap

so Nikon QC is at least consistent...:lol:

get the D3100 Guide from amazon by David Busch...

off-topic...recently bought a Canon film camera - the AT-1 - their Manual from 1976 was a jewel............

Canon manuals do seem to be fairly reasonable, the A1's is a gem too. By the time the EOS-3 was in production, the manual is pretty much the same format as 7D and 450D's.

Canon are good at the paperwork - as befits a photocopier company

(this comment coming from someone who owns (or has previously owned...) Canon A1, AE-1p, Canonet 1.7QLIII, EOS5,EOS3,EOS-1n,EOS30,SureShot 90u,Digital IxusV3,EOS450D and EOS7D - along with a ludicrous number of their lenses... - Just thought I'd say it before some Nikonite did!)

Hi Marco,

Welcome to the forum from a fellow Nikonite.
