Evening all,
Had a bit of a lurk around the forums for a couple of days now, thought it about time I put in an introductory thread and so, here goes.
Decided that photography was something I'd like to have a bit of a go of. My goal is simply to work towards being able to produce some shots that I'd be happy to put my name to and say 'yeah, I did that' (hopefully with some consistancy, I might add).
My kit so far consists of a Nikon D5100 with 18-55 kit lens, which I've owned for two weeks, and a reasonable amount of enthusiasm. Previous experience amounts to nothing more than snapshots with a Canon IXUS 750. So far the only book I've read on the subject is my instruction manual and even then I haven't made it much further than most of the basics, the stuff that you guys use, and take for granted, on a daily basis so far eludes me.
My short term intentions are to learn, and become comfrotable with the settings of my camera and consume any books/sites on the principles of photography which are recommended to me.
I'm also toying with the idea of pruchasing a 35mm lens, purely on the basis that I feel my 'universal tool' of a kit lens is trying to be everything to me all at once when really I don't know what I want it to be. Forcing myself to work with less variables at an early stage, rather than more, should make things easier.
So, is my thinking reasonably sound so far?
Oh yeah, Hello!
